Two Nigerians found dead, suspected drug overdose
By ANDREW SAGAYAM and PHILADELPHIA NAIR
KUALA LUMPUR: Two foreign students were found dead in their apartment unit in Taman Connaught, Cheras. They are believed to have overdosed on drugs.
The victims, both Nigerians, were discovered by their housemate in a room in their apartment unit at 10am on Wednesday.
Olugboja Emmanuel Olawale, 22, was found lying on the bed while Abbas Alhaji, 24, was sprawled under it.
The housemate returned home just after midnight Tuesday, went straight to bed and found Olugboja and Abbas when he went to wake them up Wednesday morning.
Initial investigations showed that the victims did have any injury marks and neither were they robbed.
Police sources said that police are investigating if the students were involved in drugs.
Police believe the duo could have consumed a large number of pills believed to be psychotropic pills.
Both victims, business information system students at a college here, came to Malaysia three years ago.
Cheras CID chief Deputy Supt V. Samugam said police are waiting for the post mortem results to determine the cause of the deaths.
Both of the bodies were taken to the Hospital University Kebangsaan Malaysia for a post mortem.
Consulate Officer of the Nigerian Embassy, Ibrahim Hamidun, who was at the crime scene advised the media not to speculate what led to the students death.
“It has already been bad for us. We, Africans, had been wrongly accused for the recent Kepong murders and two of our people had been arrested without any solid proof,” he said.
